Living in the Shadows

“Living in the shadow. Can you imagine what kind of life it is to live? In the shadows people see you as happy and free, because that’s what you want them to see. Living two lifes, happy but not free.

“The world is changing and they say it’s time to be free, But you live with the fear of just being me. Living in the shadow feels like the safe place to be. No harm for them, no harm for me. But life is short, and it’s time to be free. Love who you love, because life isn’t guaranteed.” -Gloria Carter

I saw a video today that made me think about how many of us hide in the shadows of what we really desire to do.

Jay Z’s song “Smile” came to mind. So I began this post with a quote from his mother. She talked about hiding who she was because of fear!

I am 27 and I think I am really just now Unapologetically living my life. I’m not hiding behind my brand, my degrees, accolades, fear of judgement or other people’s expectations of what I should or shouldn’t be.

When I graduated with my master‘s degree, I had this whole idea of what I wanted out of my life but as I started learning who I was as a woman, my ideas and beliefs changed; my fearlessness began elevating!

Putting yourself in front of thousands of people consistently can be tough if you lack confidence. Some people are mean and unhappy so you become a public punching bag to their insecurities. You become the group chat topic and screenshot of the day.

Trust me, I have had so much anxiety while creating Her Dresscode but it gets easier each time you do something that scares you and conquer the fear!

Recently, I have received questions about starting a blog and putting myself in the spotlight.

My advice to everyone is to believe in yourself enough to quiet the outside noise and push through to the end of what you desire.

The only rules in life are those that you make for yourself. The sky is the limit if that’s where your happiness and fulfillment is but if space is your goal then shoot for Mars!

Xoxo,💋
